The latest generation of high performance passenger train operated by the Austrian Federal Railways –the ÖBB railjet- will start commercial operation on Vienna-Zurich and Salzburg-Zurich lines on 13 December 2009. From this date, a daily service will be proposed to customers from Vienna or from Salzburg to Zurich via Innsbruck and back (or from Zurich to Vienna and Zurich to Salzburg).
Every train set consists in one locomotive with seven coaches. Two train sets can be coupled together if needed. The ÖBB railjet fast trains can run at a speed of 230 km/h, allowing a journey time reduced by 40 minutes on the Vienna-Zurich route.
Three different comfort levels associated with dedicated services are proposed to passengers: Premium, First Class, Economy Class.
ÖBB railjet trains already serve international destinations. They currently connect Vienna with Budapest and Munich. From June 2010 an additional railjet service on the Zurich-Vienna-Zurich route will be added.
