The Association of American Railroads (AAR), the Watford Group and UIC announced in eNews n° 250 the 44 projects from 12 nations that have been recognised for design excellence in the 2011 edition of the prestigious Brunel Awards International Railway Design Competition. Twenty projects received Brunel Awards, the highest level of recognition, while 24 others received Commendations (http://uic.org/com/uic-e-news/250).
The Brunel Awards competition recognises and promotes the best in railway architecture, engineering, landscape and environmental design, product design, locomotive and car design, graphic arts, and corporate branding amongst the world’s railways.
The world’s rail transport community will meet in Washington, DC on 14 October 2011 to honour the winners of the 11th Brunel Awards Design Competition.
The keynote speaker will be Ray La Hood, US Transportation Secretary
together with:
- Karen Rae, Deputy Federal Railroad Administrator, US Department of Transportation
- John Mica, Congressman, US House of Representatives – FL
- Edward R. Hamberger, President and CEO of the Association of American Railroads (USA)
- Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, Director General of UIC
- Rob Stringa, Watford Group Chair
The 2011 Brunel Awards Ceremony Conference will be held in conjunction with the 2011 Watford Conference will take place from 10 to 14 October in both New York and Washington. It is being organised by C4IDT – Center for Industrial Design in Transportation, Inc., assisted by the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Amtrak. The conference will be held at the MTA Conference Center in Manhattan (NY).
