Last week in Tangier, on the occasion of the laying of the first stone of the high speed line which will connect Tangier and Casablanca, attended by Nicolas Sarkozy, President of France, HM King Mohammed VI of Morocco and HRH Prince Megrin Ben Abdulaziz Al Saud representing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Guillaume Pepy, Chief Executive of SNCF, and Mohamed Khlie, Chief Executive of Moroccan National Railways (ONCF), signed an agreement to establish an institute for training in rail professions.
The training institute will be based in Morocco and will support the development of shared expertise in national and international operations.
The areas of training will involve all skills relating to rail transport, whether urban transport, suburban transport and conventional or high-speed, inter-city transport.
The institute will offer high-quality training, chiefly in the areas of:
- Industry, such as infrastructure maintenance
- Customer service for both passengers and goods
- Rail operations, and in particular train management
The institute will be set up before the end of the first half of 2012, following the project’s approval by SNCF and ONCF.
The two parties are aiming for the institute to be fully operational by the time the TGV between Tangiers and Casablanca is commissioned.
