UIC, as coordinator of the RESTRAIL project, organised a financial workshop alongside the 6th progress meeting of the project. This event was co-organised with the Spanish Railways Foundation (FFE), partner of the RESTRAIL consortium at the FFE headquarters in Madrid.

Aline Wego, Head of the UIC External Funding Unit, gave detailed information on the data to be provided by the RESTRAIL partners for the first financial report that will be delivered to the European Commission in May 2013.
After almost 18 months of work, the project is well on track. The deliverable on “Data concerning railway suicides and trespassing accidents (D1.1)” was delivered on time by VTT, leader of WP1.
The summary and conclusions of the deliverable can be consulted online at
http://www.restrail.eu/Deliverables...

At this stage, the deliverable on the “Assessment of identified measures for prevention of suicide and trespasses” led by Trafikverket and IFSTTAR is in the last review phase. The consortium is now preparing the various groups of (soft and technological) measures to be implemented later at test sites, depending on suicide and trespass problems that different countries are facing. Based on this selection, the possible field tests and the methodology to implement and evaluate the selected measures were discussed during the meeting. Fields test are already envisaged in most of the countries involved in the project and should be confirmed before June.

A public conference will be organised in Paris in June at UIC headquarters, to give a comprehensive overview of the RESTRAIL results. The advisory board and all interested rail companies will be welcome to this mid-term event and will be invited to give their feedback and to exchange their best practice to reduce trespass and suicides and to mitigate their consequences.
