In the scope of the UIC Asia-Pacific Strategic Action Plan and following our collaboration with ESCAP initiated in 2011, UIC is pleased to invite your company to the jointly organised seminar aimed at promoting regional and interregional connectivity and cooperation through the further development and upgrading of the Trans-Asian Railway networks as well as dry ports to support the realisation of a vision of an international integrated intermodal transport and logistics system for the region.
As part of the strategy towards the realisation of this long-term vision, UIC has initiated different studies, recommendations and benchmark of best practice in the European Region. The recent re-launch of the Global Team of Experts will support the dissemination of this know-how in Europe as well as in Asia.
For its part, ESCAP has issued Resolution 69/7 of 1 May 2013 and the Intergovernmental agreement on Dry Ports, related to planning, designing, developing and operating Dry Ports, and initiated a series of studies and sub-regional seminars to review the ongoing and future developments of Dry Ports in the region.
As a common initiative to establish a complete view of the different modes as well as intercontinental benchmarking, a second regional seminar is scheduled to be organised in Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand, on 18 and 19 March 2014 for UIC Asia-Pacific members in South, South-East, West and Central Asia.
The nominated experts from your company should have knowledge of policies and initiatives taking place or being considered relating to the ongoing and future development of Dry Ports. At the workshop each delegation will have an opportunity to make a 20-minute presentation/statement highlighting policies, institutional framework, expected benefits and challenges being faced. In turn, ESCAP has invited a representative from your own government who will also be part of the exchanges.
UIC would be grateful if you could kindly communicate the name of your representative to us by 14 February 2014 at the latest.
Upon receiving the nomination, we will send a confirmation letter to the nominated official(s) along with the programme of the seminar as well as an information note detailing arrangements being made in relation to its delivery.
Should you require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact Vincent Vu, Coordinator of UIC Asia-Pacific, e-mail: vu at uic.org, or visit http://www.uic.org
We are looking forward to the active support of your company in this international development and UIC is sure that our combined efforts will further contribute to the development of efficient international transport in the region.
