From 17 – 18 October 2013 UIC, together with JSC Russian Railways (RZD), successfully organised “NEXT STATION’, the 4th International Conference on Railway Stations, in Moscow’s Kazansky Station.
The main objective of this conference was to focus on the links between railway stations and society (“Railway Stations – Linking Railways and Society”). It followed successful editions held in Rome (2005), Paris (2007) and Brussels (2011). This UIC/RZD international conference was held under the high patronage of the European Investment bank (EIB) with the support of a large number of partners and supporting organisations.
The conference provided a unique opportunity to bring together all the players and stakeholders involved in the planning, financing, construction and operations of railway stations all over the world.
Sessions were specifically dedicated to the governance and financing of railway stations, innovations, business and services, station design around the world, stations as intermodal centres, the integrated protection of railway stations, sustainable stations, connecting stations with the city.
