On 24 December 2015 in Moscow the President of JSC Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov and Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation Pundi Srinivasan Raghavan signed a memorandum of mutual understanding between JSC Russian Railways and the Ministry of Railways of the Republic of India concerning technical cooperation in the railway sector. The signing took place in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to the signed document the parties agreed to develop cooperation in the field of high-speed railways, upgrading of existing railway infrastructure in the field of modern management systems and traffic safety in matters of satellite and GIS technologies, transport and information security.
Furthermore, the document includes cooperation in the field of rolling stock production, high load capacity transportation, development of allocated freight corridors, as well as training of Indian Railway employees.
A similar document was in force from 2006 to 2009. The purpose of renewing this kind of cooperation is to identify among the areas of mutual interest specific projects in India for the joint implementation on a mutually beneficial basis.
