On the occasion of the opening of the first direct ICE service between Hamburg and Chur in Switzerland on 13 December 2015, a first generation ICE train was named after Chur, the oldest town in Switzerland.
The direct ICE service between Hamburg and Frankfurt am Main and Chur is part of the development of ICE services between Germany and Switzerland. Germany and Switzerland represent for Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and Deutsche Bahn respectively the first international passenger traffic markets.
The new services offer excellent departure and arrival times to Freiburg and Frankfurt am Main. The times for Hamburg are well suited to a return journey for visitors. Graubünden can thus be reached with one change.
