Kanat Kalievich Alpysbayev was born on 31 March 1972 in the city of Atbasar, Akmola region. He graduated from the Almaty Institute of Railway Engineers, the University of Kentucky (USA), Moscow International Higher Business School. He holds a master’s degree.

Between 1994 and 2002 he worked at the companies Tselinnaya Railway, RSE Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, and joint stock companies of various profiles. In 2002-2003, he was the Director of Finance and Administration, Vice-President for Finance and Information Technologies of JSC Air Astana.

From November 2005 to June 2008 he worked as Business Development Director, branch of General Electric. From 2008 to 2012 he worked as the Vice-President for Economics and Finance of JSC NC KTZ. From January 2013 to December 2014, Vice-President of Logistics of JSC NC KTZ. From December 2014 to April 2016, Vice - President of JSC NC KTZ. On 29 April 2016 he took up the role of Vice-President of Operations Coordination, JSC NC KTZ.

On 15 September 2016 Mr Alpysbayev was appointed President of KTZ.
