On 4 October 2016, the Hall of the Croatian Chamber of Economy in Zagreb hosted the 7th International Symposium on Railways, organised by the Croatian Association of Railway Engineers (HDŽI).

Ms Danijela Barić, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Traffic and Transport Sciences and HDŽI President, gave a short introduction speech and presented the goals of the Association.

“On this day we would like to be a place where railway engineers meet and exchange new ideas. We are hoping to be a place where new co-operation occurs, and in this way encourage the success of all railway stakeholders, who can contribute to the fulfilment of railway sector goals”, Ms Barić pointed out.

The goal of this year’s Symposium was to present modern technologies and technical solutions for infrastructure subsystems and railway operators, and during the Symposium, plans and possibilities of railway operators and infrastructure managers were presented, as well as innovations in the area of the accompanying industry. Projects of the International Union of Railways (UIC) in South-Eastern Europe, including the UIC-founded South East Europe Strategic Alliance for Rail Innovation (SEESARI), in which HDŽI is also a partner, were presented by Dennis Schut, head of the UIC Research Unit.

Together with representatives of all three national railway undertakings, competent ministry and the Faculty of Traffic and Transport Sciences, the Symposium brought together the representatives of companies, whose business activities are connected with the railway sector.

The Symposium patrons were: the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, the International Union of Railways (UIC), working in partnership with the Union of European Railway Engineer Associations (UEEIV), HŽ Infrastructure, HŽ Passenger Transport and HŽ Cargo.
