In the context of the Club Feroviar Investment Summit 2018 in Bucharest dedicated to infrastructure, Mr Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, UIC Director General was invited to be a keynote speaker. In his speech he reminded the audience of UIC’s contribution since its creation to the development of interoperable infrastructure.
Romanian railways were a founding member of UIC and have also worked in this direction.
Among the many challenges of capacity, safety, security, electrification and signalling, the railways in this 21st century must develop and take advantage of the digital revolution, which can have an impact on its productivity in operations and maintenance, its security and services.
We are witnessing an evolution of transport towards more complementarity of modes, to optimise all advantages of each, and in every new project of renovation or construction, the management of interfaces between modes should be given more importance to improve a more efficient chain of mobility.
UIC is working on all these issues and will bring its support to the many projects that must take place in Romania to boost passenger, freight, domestic and international links.
This development of maximising the importance of infrastructures and their investment is also an important positive sign at the moment when Romania will take over the presidency of Europe.
