At 10:00 on May 30, a No. C3816 train departed from Shanghai Station, ran on Beijing-Shanghai Railway and Nantong-Shanghai Railway, crossed the Yangtze River, and headed for Nantong, marking the completion of integrated commissioning & test of Zhaodian-Huangdu Section of Nantong-Shanghai Railway and the commencement of trial operation. It is getting closer to the goal of being ready for opening to traffic by the end of June.
The construction of Zhaodian-Huangdu Section of Nantong-Shanghai Railway was commenced in March 2014. Following the completion of subgrade, bridges, mainline track-laying, and “communication, signal, power and electrification” works, the integrated commissioning & test began on April 20 this year, during which the inspection train, test freight train, comprehensive inspection train, and double-headed EMU train ran on this section for round-trip test and full-line through test at different speed levels, power concentrated EMU train test at 160 km/h, and static load test on Yangtze River Bridge of Nantong-Shanghai Railway.
As of May 30, more than 700 test trains were put in operation on Zhaodian-Huangdu Section of Nantong-Shanghai Railway, with a total inspection length of 18,393 kilometers. The section is expected to be ready for opening by the end of June.
Nantong-Shanghai Railway is an important part of the coastal corridor, a main corridor of the high speed railway network composed of "eight north-south lines and eight east-west lines” specified in China’s Mid-and-Long-Term Railway Network Plan. It has a main line of 137.5 km in length and a design speed of 200 km/h.
After Zhaodian-Huangdu Section of Nantong-Shanghai Railway opens to traffic, it will further improve the capacity of the river-crossing railway corridor, improve the railway network layout and the regional integrated transport system in Yangtze River Delta area, connect Zhangjiagang, Changshu and Taicang, three cities under the administration of Suzhou, to the railway network of the Yangtze River Delta area, and change the railway route between Nantong and Shanghai from a curve into a straight line without transfer in Nanjing.
It is expected that the train travel time between the two cities will be reduced from four hours to 1.5 hours, which will greatly facilitate the travel of the people along the route. This is of great significance in enhancing the leading role of Shanghai as a central city and boosting the quality integrated development of Yangtze River Delta area.
