The European RailtoLand project is proposing free access to three online courses (MOOCs) from 4 April.

Discover more about the MOOCs on the dedicated project website: https://bit.ly/3uMfQCI

The three MOOCs are:

  • Landscape and railway in the European cultural identity
  • The railway system: European identity symbol, cultural and tourist value
  • Techniques for the interpretation, representation and communication (IRC) of railway cultural landscape in Europe

All of the videos, as well as the scripts, are available with subtitles in five different languages. It will be possible to view all of the content once the courses have started.

The RAILtoLAND project aims to explore the social and educational value of the European cultural landscape as a common heritage and as a catalyst for consolidation of European identity processes, social cohesion, the creation of local cultures and improvement of human well-being. It is aligned with the aims of the European Landscape Convention, involving the target population in decision-making processes and designing landscape enhancement initiatives.

In particular, the project proposes formal and informal learning dynamics that prioritise structured dialogues with young people and mutual learning in an international and intercultural context. It tests methodologies for educational innovation, such as design thinking or learning by doing, aimed at improving horizontal skills and competences in communication, creativity and critical thinking.

It makes use of the open learning platforms of higher education partners to expand their training offerings in terms of the appreciation, management and protection of landscapes, specifically European landscapes, and their built heritage, especially the railways.

Railways are the focus of this project because of their structure and the dynamic nature of the territory, and because they serve as a platform for the appreciation of cultural landscapes throughout Europe from a new perspective and constitute one of the key elements in the construction of modern Europe.

Co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. The project, in which UIC is partner, has received funding under the European Commission’s Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership, Key Action 2 under grant agreement 2019-1-ES01-KA203-065554.
