The challenge of maximising rail capacity while ensuring public safety will be debated during a webinar on managing passenger flow in stations post-lockdown, which will take place on 20 November at 14:00 CET.
Sponsored by Veovo, the webinar is the third in a four-part series on the power of digital to inspire rail passenger confidence, produced by the International Railway Summit in association with Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). The webinar will be moderated by Christian Chavanel, UIC’s Rail System Director. Mr Chavanel will share his expertise and knowledge of global best practice with an audience of rail sector experts.
The Covid-19 pandemic continues to affect where we can go and how we interact. Social distancing is crucial, and is most difficult in closed spaces such as stations where crowds can gather. Rail operators and infrastructure owners must manage the flow of people to ensure passenger health and service viability. The webinar will address the most pressing questions in this regard. How can we control passenger flow, monitor, analyse, and even predict the seemingly unpredictable? How can we use the information that we gather and communicate to redesign spaces and reorganise services?
Leading operators will share their strategies for crowd management during the live debate. Jasmin Thurau of SBB’s Crowd Management Competence Centre, and Jérôme Berthonneau, Deputy CEO, Keolis Lyon, will explain how to widen bottlenecks, loosen commuter squeeze, and spread confidence.
The webinar is sponsored by passenger flow predictability experts Veovo. Peter Knudsen, General Manager of Veovo, will present the company’s AI and machine learning-enabled solutions for tracking, forecasting and managing movement, optimising space and streamlining operational efficiencies.
Each webinar in the four-part series deals with a different aspect of the passenger journey. Other sessions in the series explore digital solutions for encouraging and maintaining social distancing, creating a healthy environment, and smarter ticketing.
