Project description
This project explores the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on passenger demand and expectations for railway travel in both the UK and China. It utilises a three-tiered approach:
Methodology & Scenarios: This phase involves establishing research methods and formulating potential future scenarios. These scenarios take into account various factors impacting railway travel, including social, economic, political, and operational aspects.
Survey & Impact Analysis: In this stage, surveys are conducted among passengers and stakeholders. Simultaneously, the impact of each scenario on railway demand and passenger expectations is modelled.
Model Validation & Strategy Recommendations: The final phase involves validating the impact models using stakeholder data. Findings from the UK and China are compared, and policy and strategy recommendations are generated for each country based on the comprehensive analysis.
The overarching aim of this project is to comprehend how the pandemic has altered railway travel patterns and expectations in both countries.
Project objectives
The main goal of this project is to evaluate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on passenger demand and expectations for railway travel in both the UK and China. The following steps will be taken to achieve this:
Travel Behavior Analysis: This involves examining changes in travel behaviour before, during, and after the pandemic.
Scenario Impact Assessment: This step assesses the potential impact of various future scenarios on railway demand.
Passenger Choice Factors: This involves identifying the key factors that influence passenger choices related to railway travel in a post-pandemic world.
Policy and Strategy Recommendations: This step involves developing evidence-based policy and strategy recommendations to encourage railway travel in each country.
This project aims to provide railway operators, infrastructure managers, and policymakers with vital insights to adjust their strategies and services to meet the changing needs of passengers in a post-COVID-19 world.
